Ripple

County Operations Center, San Diego, California.

2011   Ripple, dichroic glass, aluminum and stainless steel, 48’x24’x16’

Ripple was designed as an organic counterpoint in the boxy geometry of the architectural space. As the visitor moves across the first floor, the artwork creates a multi-dimensional experience, giving the viewer a sense of being part of the sculpture.  Entering the second floor, the sculpture reveals itself in stages from the stairwell and elevator lobby to the balcony. The dichroic glass provides a kinetic sense of movement as light enters the lobby and changes throughout the day.  The walls pick up ambient light and moving reflectionsfrom within the building, creating shifts of color as the viewer changes position. This is further enhanced through artificial light that projects color onto adjacent walls and the ceiling.
