Akimbo

Skagit Valley College, Mount Vernon, Washington

2014   Akimbo, dichroic glass, aluminum and stainless steel, 50’ x 50’ x 25’.

Positioned adjacent to the east facing curtain wall the sculpture reacts to artificial lighting and the sun and is most dynamic in the morning. As you move across the lobby or walk across the second or third floor bridge the sculpture shifts in color and form. At night dramatic flashes of color can be seen from the entrance courtyard contributing to a lantern effect.  AKIMBO is an organic counter-point to the geometry of the architecture and adds mystery and power to both.
