Blossoms
Lakewood-Wadsworth Light Rail Station, Denver, Colorado.
2013 Blossoms One and Two, dichroic glass, aluminum and stainless steel, 10’ x 25’x 20’.
One of two sculptures above the stairwells at the Lakewood-Wadsworth light rail station, Denver, Colorado.
The sculptures are designed to resonate with local weather --sun, wind, rain, and snow as well as respond to the canopy design in plan and elevation. The sculptures complement and define the existing architectural geometry and mark the stair locations with color, form and movement. These forms, along with the colorful, reflective qualities of the dichroic glass, will create a sense of dynamic kinetic movement. As a traveler moves across the platform, on foot or by rail, and walks down or up the stairs, the sculpture creates a dimensional experience and a sense ofbeing in or traveling through beams of light that change dependingon the weather and time of day. The stairwells will become surprising and welcoming. The effect will be especially noticed when walking up them from street level.
